The Future of Pile Driving Hydraulic Power Units

(The Good Old Days Are Gone)

Hydraulic power units used to power pile driving equipment are starting to change with the times of the industry today.  More requirements place demands on better designs, smaller packages and meeting EPA laws.  Not too long ago noise was not much of a concern in construction, however that has changed, new laws and restrictions require that equipment must meet or exceed noise levels in many states and counties.  The onset of the Tier III engines to meet EPA regulations has demanded that designers must better power match their units to the pile equipment demands, no more just over power the units with extra horsepower.

Fuel costs have, and are still rising to the point that every drop of fuel is critical to the job.  Power units must provide more and better use of fuel for pile driving jobs.  Noise is the next regulation that will be enforced throughout the industry, as more and more job sites are requiring noise levels much lower than has been seen in the past.  Environmentally friendly" or "green" lubricants that should protect contractors against oil spill damages and costs are almost a must on today’s job site.  Power units still running the petroleum oil are persistent and toxic to the environment, which run the risk of damages and fines when spilled either on the ground or in the water ways.

Western Dynamics, Inc has been at the forefront in designing new hydraulic power units with noise reduction, fuel efficient systems and environmentally friendly fluids.  Smaller packages, drip pans, special exhaust systems for reduction of noise are all built into our designs.  The smart contractors either see the regulations coming or had to deal with them on the job site, and they are demanding better designs to meet the changes.

When the pile driving manufactures can’t or won’t design for the future, Western Dynamics, Inc can and will provide the future hydraulic power units for today’s and tomorrow’s jobs.  We can design the unit, and help you build power units of the future.
